About the Division of Hematology/Oncology The Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Illinois Chicago is dedicated to advancing excellence in cancer care, benign hematology, research, and medical education. The Division provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services across the continuum of hematologic and oncologic care, delivering innovative, patient-centered treatment to a diverse population throughout Chicago and the surrounding region. The Division is committed to improving outcomes through multidisciplinary clinical programs, groundbreaking research, and the training of future leaders in hematology and oncology. Faculty members are actively engaged in investigator-initiated, cooperative group, translational, and clinical research programs that seek to advance the understanding and treatment of cancer and blood disorders. The Division features: Comprehensive hematology and oncology services, including the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant hematologic disorders, solid tumors, and complex cancer conditions. Multidisciplinary disease-focused programs that bring together physicians, surgeons, radiation oncologists, researchers, nurses, and support teams to provide coordinated patient care. Access to clinical trials and innovative therapies through collaborations with UI Health, cooperative research groups, and academic partners. A strong educational mission, including an ACGME-accredited Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program and extensive teaching opportunities for medical students, residents, and fellows. Robust basic, translational, clinical, and population health research programs focused on improving prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship outcomes. Position Summary: The Division Chief will provide strategic, academic, clinical, and operational leadership for all activities within the Division of Hematology/Oncology, ensuring alignment with the missions of the Department of Medicine, the University of Illinois College of Medicine, and UI Health. The successful candidate will be an accomplished physician-scientist, clinician-investigator, or academic physician with a national reputation in hematology and/or oncology. The Chief will be responsible for promoting clinical excellence, expanding research programs, advancing educational initiatives, recruiting and developing faculty, and fostering a collaborative culture that supports innovation and academic achievement. Duties Responsibilities: Leadership Strategy Develop and implement a strategic vision that advances the Division's clinical, research, and educational missions. Lead faculty recruitment, retention, mentorship, and professional development initiatives. Promote a culture of collaboration, inclusion, innovation, and accountability. Represent the Division within the Department of Medicine, College of Medicine, UI Health, and external professional organizations. Clinical Excellence Provide leadership for comprehensive hematology and oncology clinical programs. Maintain an active clinical practice and promote excellence in patient-centered care. Expand access to specialized hematologic and oncologic services and identify opportunities for programmatic growth. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance quality, safety, and patient outcomes. Research Advancement Maintain a nationally recognized record of scholarly achievement and academic contributions. Foster growth in translational, clinical, population health, and laboratory-based research programs. Support faculty in securing federal, foundation, and industry-sponsored research funding. Promote interdisciplinary collaborations across the University of Illinois Cancer Center and other institutional partners. Education Training Support excellence in undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education. Provide leadership and mentorship for fellows, residents, and medical students. Partner with fellowship leadership to ensure compliance with ACGME standards and maintain a robust learning environment. Encourage faculty engagement in teaching, mentoring, and educational scholarship. Administrative Financial Oversight Manage divisional finances, clinical operations, workforce planning, and resource allocation. Ensure responsible stewardship of divisional resources in support of strategic goals. Establish metrics and accountability measures to evaluate divisional performance. Collaborate with Department, College, Cancer Center, and Health System leadership to support institutional priorities.
