JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Position Summary: Hospital Volunteers play an important role in supporting the hospital's mission of compassionate, patient-centered care. By donating their time and talents, volunteers provide non-clinical assistance to patients, visitors, and staff, helping create a caring, welcoming environment while supporting the delivery of exceptional service. Key Responsibilities: Greet and assist patients, visitors, and families with directions and general information Deliver items such as flowers, mail, or comfort supplies Assist with clerical and administrative tasks (e.g., filing, assembling packets, answering phones) Support hospital departments and staff with non-medical duties Escort patients or visitors when needed (wheelchair assistance, wayfinding) Maintain confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies, safety procedures, and HIPAA requirements Represent the hospital professionally and courteously at all times Minimum Requirements & Preferred Qualifications: Minimum age requirement: 18 Ability to interact with diverse populations with empathy and respect Strong communication and interpersonal skills Dependable, punctual, and professional demeanor Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team Physical ability to stand, walk, and perform light lifting if required Completion of hospital onboarding requirements (application, interview, background check, health screenings, and training) Customer service or prior volunteer experience Bilingual or multilingual skills (a plus) Interest in healthcare or community service Benefits of Volunteering: Opportunity to give back to the community Gain exposure to a healthcare environment Develop interpersonal, teamwork, and professional skills Personal fulfillment from helping others Commitment: Volunteers are typically asked to commit to a regular schedule (e.g., one shift per week for a minimum for a minimum of 4 hours) for a 6 month time period, depending on volunteer availability and organizational needs. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:    Must possess good physical health.  Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 20 pounds is required.  Physical Effort required:         Constant (67%-100%) - hearing, seeing Frequently (34%-66%) - pushing/pulling, climbing, handling/feeling, talking Occasionally (1%-33%) – lifting, carrying, stooping, crouching, reaching VOLUNTEER EXPECTATIONS Each St. Tammany Health System volunteer is expected to conduct himself or herself according to our mission, vision and values.
