Position Overview The Veterinary Assistant Supervisor is a working leadership position responsible for providing high-quality patient care while supporting the daily organization, development, and performance of the veterinary assistant team. In addition to performing the duties of a Veterinary Assistant, the Supervisor serves as a resource and role model for the support team, helps coordinate daily workflow, promotes consistent adherence to hospital protocols, assists with training and onboarding, and helps maintain a positive, collaborative work environment. The Veterinary Assistant Supervisor works closely with the Hospital Manager and veterinary team to identify workflow challenges, support hospital initiatives, reinforce established policies and procedures, and ensure the team is prepared to provide efficient, compassionate patient and client care. Open Monday through Saturday, the team offers a broad range of services from routine wellness exams, vaccinations, and dental care to state-of-the-art surgery, advanced diagnostics, geriatric care, and urgent care during regular business hours, all within a relaxed and welcoming environment where pet owners consistently feel confident and well-informed. Essential Clinical Functions Provide compassionate, safe, and efficient care to all patients. Obtain patient histories, weights, vital signs, and other information as appropriate. Safely restrain and handle patients using appropriate techniques and calm anxious patients. Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, procedures, diagnostics, medication administration, and patient care. Collect and prepare laboratory samples and perform approved in-house diagnostic testing. Take diagnostic radiographs as directed and operate hospital equipment appropriately. Place IV catheters, perform venipuncture, administer medications, and perform other technical duties within applicable laws and hospital policies. Assist with anesthesia, surgical procedures, dental procedures, and patient monitoring when applicable. Fill prescriptions and maintain appropriate medical and controlled-drug documentation. Maintain accurate and complete patient medical records. Maintain appropriate standards of cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and infection control throughout the hospital. Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients and provide education as directed by the veterinarian. Promote hospital products and services and support organizational initiatives Supervisory & Leadership Responsibilities Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to the veterinary assistant team. Serve as a primary resource for assistants regarding hospital workflow, protocols, procedures, and technical questions. Help coordinate daily patient flow and distribute responsibilities based on hospital needs, staff skill level, and veterinarian priorities. Conduct or assist with daily team huddles and communicate important operational updates. Monitor completion of opening, closing, cleaning, stocking, maintenance, and other assigned responsibilities. Identify workflow problems and work with the Hospital Manager and medical team to develop practical solutions. Promote teamwork between veterinary assistants, reception staff, veterinarians, and hospital leadership. Model professional communication, accountability, reliability, and respectful workplace behavior. Address routine workflow or performance concerns promptly and escalate significant or recurring concerns to the Hospital Manager. Reinforce hospital policies, SOPs, safety standards, and established medical protocols. Provide coaching and real-time feedback when team members need additional direction or support. Assist the Hospital Manager with identifying performance, training, attendance, communication, or accountability concerns. Participate in team meetings, leadership discussions, and implementation of hospital initiatives as requested. Serve as a point of contact for the assistant team when the Hospital Manager is unavailable while recognizing issues that require management or veterinarian involvement Training & Team Development Assist with onboarding and training new veterinary assistants. Help maintain training checklists and monitor completion of required competencies. Assess team members' technical skills and identify opportunities for additional training. Provide hands-on coaching and demonstrate proper techniques and hospital procedures. Encourage continuing education and professional development. • Help cross-train team members to improve flexibility and hospital coverage. Support team members enrolled in veterinary technician or other veterinary education programs when appropriate. Work with the Hospital Manager and veterinarians to establish consistent
