Date Prepared 12/2025 Position Title Sr. Training Specialist Department Education and Compliance Job Number PC8247 Location West Des Moines, IA Basic Function Coordinate and conduct all phases of the new hire and lifecycle training for PC claims and underwriting employees, including analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating training needs. Monitor performance and enable employees to develop and raise skill levels to achieve company goals and objectives. Principal Accountabilities Accountabilities should reflect job functions requiring at least 5% of an incumbent’s time commitment. Coordinate and conduct all phases of PC claims and underwriting curriculum development and training functions. 2. Coordinate and facilitate training by qualified FBL personnel (training staff, claims, underwriting, or other departments), or outside personnel, when necessary. 3. Lead newly hired staff through the training curriculum through regularly scheduled meetings and by answering questions. Regularly communicate progress with Business Unit leaders. 4. Identify needed updates to course curriculum and online training modules and revise, as required, by partnering with Instructional Designers. 5. Design and develop training programs as assigned, including curriculum, online courses, resource materials, etc., as identified by the annual training portfolio. 6. Review and evaluate training feedback assessments and implement changes based on the feedback. 7. Participate in cross-functional workgroups to identify specific areas where training is needed and develop training programs to help ensure compliance with Claims and Underwriting Best Practices, as well as various federal and state laws and regulations. 8. Explore and evaluate emerging trends, technologies, and methodologies in the training and development field. Collaborate with team members to share insights and drive the implementation of innovative learning solutions. 9. Provide training and assist with the development and mentoring of team members. Foster collaborative culture between team members. 10. Regularly analyze the success of training by reviewing and analyzing Quality Assurance results. Non-Essential Functions: Perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned. Progress toward industry education outlined in career development path is expected. Qualifications/Know-How 1. College degree or equivalent, plus seven years of relevant experience required. Three years of claims, underwriting, and/or training/education related experience preferred. 2. Ability to develop, teach, and continuously analyze and update an adult learning curriculum. 3. Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills. 4. Oral and written communication skills as appropriate to this position. 5. Must have an in-depth background in claims, underwriting, and/or training/education. 6. Ability to read, write, and speak the English language. 7. A valid driver’s license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Records are required . 8. Some travel may be required (including overnight stays). 9. Advanced degree or CPCU designation preferred. 10. Possess strong leadership skills. 11. Must have good problem solving, analytical, organizational, and time management skills. 12. Must keep current with existing and pending governmental rules and regulations. OVER Nature Scope The Education and Compliance Department is responsible for providing new hire and lifecycle training to Property and Casualty claims and underwriting staff, as well as ensuring adherence to Claims and Underwriting Best Practices through quality assurance reviews. Accurate payment of claim losses and underwriting rating accuracy contribute to the overall profitability of The Company; therefore, it is important that the department operates at a high-performance level to help ensure The Company remains competitive. The Sr . Training Specialist is responsible for determining the training needs of PC claims and underwriting personnel, as well as analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating training programs for these staff so all claims and underwriting personnel can perform their duties in an excellent manner to provide the high-quality service expected by our agents and client/members. As a Sr. Training Specialist, the additional responsibilities will include developing and delivering reports to create actionable insights for leadership, overseeing training efforts align with identified opportunities, and representing the Training Team on workgroups or projects that support department initiatives.
