Damar is looking for passionate Education Mentors to perform a variety of Para-professional tasks related to the care of individuals served by Damar in the public-school system.  This includes participation in activities that promote the development of appropriate daily living, self-help and social skills. Never leaving clients unattended unless permitted for periods of time based on a client’s Individual Education Plan Effectively responds to and manages crisis situations, which may include client physical aggression, utilizing prescribed verbal intervention or physical management techniques Participates in programs designed to aid in the habilitation, training and treatments of clients Consistently implements Individual Education Plan and behavior management plans to reduce client’s maladaptive behaviors, promote appropriate social behaviors and maximize human potential of each client served What you need to be considered: Minimum age of 18 per licensure requirements Be able to provide formal proof of a high school diploma or GED Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving) Be clear of any felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect or other disqualifying criminal convictions Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and physical Favorably meet and maintain Damar’s background screening Essential Job Functions The essential functions of this position require the physical ability and mobility needed to perform the job. This includes the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs.; operate office equipment, including a computer keyboard; travel to other locations using private or commercial transportation; and communicate effectively to exchange information. The position also requires the ability to recognize and respond appropriately to client behaviors, staff instructions, safety concerns, and emergencies in an environment where individuals may display aggressive, self-injurious, sexually maladaptive, elopement, or other unpredictable behaviors. Regular and acceptable attendance, excluding approved absences and periods of leave, is also an essential function of the position.
