Software Engineer Fullstack / Backend II (Full Time) – United States

What makes our team exciting is the opportunity to work   on an immense   scale, solve deep distributed systems challenges, and   leverage   artificial intelligence to automate large-scale production infrastructure.     Your Impact     In   this role, you will contribute directly to a large-scale codebase deploying daily across multiple cloud platforms—including AWS, GCP, Azure, and GovCloud—to serve thousands of enterprise customers. You will architect self-service developer tools and abstractions that enable internal engineering teams to safely manage infrastructure without central bottlenecks. You will deploy and monitor production systems across multi-cloud environments, tuning telemetry, metrics, and alerting to drive operational excellence. You will   participate   in supported on-call rotations to diagnose complex system anomalies, resolve production incidents, and   identify   root causes. Additionally, you will build and integrate AI-powered tools into engineering workflows to automate configuration changes and   optimize   continuous delivery pipelines.   Minimum Qualifications   Meet one of the following   (completed within the past   3 years   or expected to be completed within the next   12 months ):   -A   Master's   degree   with   0 years of work experience ; or   -A   Bachelor's   degree   with 2 years of work experience ; or   An educational or workforce development program (e.g., Associate’s, Apprenticeship, Boot camp, or Certification)   with 3 years of work experience ; or   A High school diploma (or equivalent)   with 4 years of work experience.   Qualifying education and work experience should be in   Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.   Demonstrated   proficiency   writing software, data structures, and algorithms in at least one modern programming language (such as Go, Python, or Ruby).     Hands-on experience building, deploying, or managing cloud infrastructure across major cloud providers (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure).     Applied coursework or practical experience with Infrastructure as Code ( IaC ), Configuration as Code ( CaC ), or automation tooling (such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or CloudFormation).   Preferred Qualifications   Practical experience with Docker containers and Kubernetes container orchestration, including command-line tooling ( kubectl ).     Working knowledge of distributed systems concepts, including concurrency control, consistency models, CAP theorem, or distributed databases/file systems.   Familiarity with CI/CD deployment pipelines, automated testing, system observability/telemetry, and Unix/Linux terminal environments.    Experience   leveraging   generative AI tools or machine learning models to automate developer tooling, infrastructure workflows, or script execution.     Demonstrated   ability to take proactive ownership of engineering deliverables, communicate technical concepts effectively, and thrive in an agile team environment.   Why Cisco?  At Cisco, we’re revolutionizing how data and infrastructure connect and protect organizations in the AI era – and beyond.
