Join us in leading the change!
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Transmission Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in transmission line design, engineering standards development, and technical support for transmission and distribution infrastructure projects. This role involves utilizing advanced tools such as PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, and PLS-Tower, along with applicable industry and utility standards, to deliver reliable, cost-effective, constructible, and high-quality engineering solutions.
In addition to project-specific design responsibilities, the Senior Transmission Engineer may support the development of utility engineering and construction standards, design methodologies, Basis of Design documentation, engineering calculation tools, and technical guidance. The candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering, construction, operations, and client teams to solve complex technical challenges across the power transmission and distribution sector.
How you can make an impact:
Lead transmission design of projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV+ from conceptual phase through design completion.
Oversee/Perform calculations, modeling, and analysis, including; Conductor and shield wire selection; Structure loading and analysis; Stringing, sag-tension, and clearance studies.
Prepare transmission equipment specifications and data sheets, Requests for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations
Complete skillsets in modeling transmission lines in the PLS suite, preparing route alignments, preparing plan and profiles, detailed knowledge of hardware assemblies and conductors, structure detail drawings and BOMs.
Develop and maintain engineering design and construction standards for transmission and distribution applications, including covered conductor systems and associated structures.
Develop covered conductor design standards and criteria based on existing utility distribution standards, industry codes, engineering best practices, and constructability requirements.
Develop and maintain PLS-Pole models, pole selection tools/spreadsheets, sag-tension and clearance tables, and other engineering tools used to support consistent and repeatable design.
Prepare and maintain Basis of Design (BOD) documents, design guidelines, engineering methodologies, and technical documentation that clearly define design assumptions, criteria, calculations, and processes to ensure consistency and reproducibility.
Perform structural and engineering analyses for non-standard or unique applications, including evaluation of poles, structures, connections, base plates, adapters, and other transmission or distribution components.
Provide ad-hoc technical engineering support to clients and project teams, including evaluation of field conditions, existing infrastructure, constructability issues, and development of engineered solutions.
Collaborate with utility engineering, construction, operations, standards, and project management teams to develop practical engineering solutions and incorporate lessons learned into standards and design practices.
Support the development, review, and continuous improvement of engineering standards, calculation tools, design templates, technical specifications, and construction guidance.
Experience developing assembly, framing, loading and design drawings for wood, concrete, steel, FRP, and lattice transmission structures
Experience in related electrical studies, such as EMF, fault current, grounding, lightning, induction, impedance, losses and voltage drop design for transmission line design.
Act as a liason with clients and contractors, coordinating with various disciplines and permitting agencies and excercising project management skills.
Experience with geotechnical data interpretation for foundation design and embedment calculations for a variety of transmission structures types and geotechnical requirements.
Ability to communicate with survey and GIS personnel, interpret survey data, and incorporate it into PLS-CADD models.
Ensure designs, engineering methodologies, and construction standards comply with applicable industry codes and standards, including ASCE, NESC, AISC, IEEE, and client-specific requirements.
Interpret existing utility standards and engineering criteria and apply them to the development of new design standards, construction standards, calculation methodologies, and engineering tools.
Provide technical leadership in the development and implementation of standards for emerging or evolving utility applications, including covered conductor systems.
Experience with ROW analysis, permitting processes and environmental regulations.
General Responsibilities:
Conduct site visits to gather data, assess conditions, and support construction as needed.
Perform load calculations, stress analysis, and structural optimization for transmission line components.
Collaborate with project managers, drafters, and other engineers to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Conduct quality checks on designs and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Provide engineering support during construction, including addressing RFI (Requests for Information) a
