It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. While this position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remotely (typically three days in the office and two days remote). In addition, this role involves substantial field work, spending 60% or more of time working directly with field personnel. The successful candidate would be expected to have a similar field presence. What does a Senior Environmental Compliance Engineer do for us? Operating under minimal supervision and using independent initiative, this employee will have comprehensive technical expertise in their field. This role provides programmatic leadership related to environmental compliance and regulatory, strategic, and policy advice to support Idaho Power’s business objectives and to foster a culture of compliance. This role utilizes knowledge and expertise in the review, development and implementation of Idaho Power's environmental compliance program, while also supporting interaction between Idaho Power and regulatory agencies. This role plans and leads complex assignments and projects and interfaces with internal departments and external organizations as needed. A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE Knowledge of: Engineering principles Comprehensive, specific, and progressive knowledge related to discipline Utilities and their business environment Regulatory requirements related to CAA, CWA, and RCRA/DOT Skills in: Strong interdisciplinary skills Effective oral and written communication Advanced use of computers and software related to position Organizational and planning skills Interpreting and applying regulations Project management Negotiation Maintaining composure under pressure while meeting multiple deadlines Ability to: Manage and coordinate multiple projects Establish and maintain effective working relationships Work both independently and on project teams Develop alternatives and evaluate their value and potential for meeting company needs Analyze large and/or complex datasets and databases Prepare comprehensive written and oral reports of problems, alternatives, and recommendations MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution OR Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited institution and a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license Experience: 6 years of related engineering experience OR 5 years of related engineering experience plus P.E. or advanced engineering degree, and 3 years in the area of expertise Demonstrated advanced level experience reviewing and interpreting requirements, including laws, rules, and regulations Licenses & Certifications: Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position for all roles Preferred: P.E. license PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position works within the office and in the field. Walking/hiking is performed occasionally, up to 4-6 miles on uneven ground, ascents/descents, and at times on steep, unconsolidated slopes, in all seasons/weather conditions, (with the ability to take self-paced breaks when needed). Lifting of up to 37 lbs. to waist height, lifting up to 5 lbs. to shoulder height, pushing/pulling up to 10/11 lbs., and reaching is performed occasionally. Stooping/bending, crouching, kneeling, crawling, and twisting is required occasionally; sometimes in confined spaces. Climbing of ladders and stairs is performed occasionally. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION If an existing Senior Engineer is selected to fill the posting, the department leader will transfer the Senior Engineer into the position at their current step. At the six-month anniversary of the hire date, the leader must review the engineer’s performance and submit to the EOC a Senior Engineer justification form requesting placement at the appropriate grade and step based on the engineer’s performance.
