Department BSD PHS - Tiro Lab About the Department Public Health Sciences (PHS) is the home in the Biological Sciences Division to biostatistics, epidemiology and health services research. These core fields in public health research share a focus on the development and implementation of complex analytic methods to understand the determinants of health, the efficacy of experimental treatments, and the structure of health care at the population level. Bringing together these fields in one department underscores their commonality and enhances opportunities for interdisciplinary research. Faculty members lead local, national, and international studies, and also welcome opportunities to collaborate with faculty across the Biological Sciences Division and the University. Substantively, our research themes include social and environmental determinants of health, genetics and disease, the economics of health care, and the evaluation and implementation of new technologies in public health and clinical care. In terms of methodological expertise, areas in which our faculty has developed innovative approaches include: risk factor measurement; multilevel, clustered and longitudinal data; clinical trials; administrative health data; social networks; and statistical methods to assess the genetic and molecular basis of disease. Job Summary The Senior Community-based Research Analyst supports the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center's (UCCCC) Center to Eliminate Cancer Inequity by advancing community-engaged research and cancer prevention outreach. Key responsibilities include developing clinician webinars for the STEP 2 HPV self-collection trial, analyzing qualitative data from cancer prevention studies, evaluating the Cancer Connections Coalition's community outreach programs, and supporting community engagement for the PEGASUS Cohort Study. The role collaborates with faculty to execute analytic plans, produce data visualizations, and prepare reports and presentations. Additional duties include representing the UCCCC with external partners, disseminating NCI resources, conducting culturally responsive community education, and ensuring regulatory compliance across all research activities. This role participates in scientific research projects. Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Writes articles, reports and manuscripts. Assists in drafting presentations on research findings. Responsibilities Revises and implements clinician and clinical staff webinars for the STEP 2 HPV self-collection implementation trial. Manages engagement with the advisory council for the PEGASUS Cohort Study. Works with faculty (Tiro, Murphy, Lee) to execute quantitative and qualitative analytic plans, generate data visualizations, collaborate on data interpretations, conduct literature reviews, and assist with preparation of reports, scientific publications, and scientific and community-based presentations. Supports evaluation of the Cancer Connections Coalition and No Smoker Left Behind programs. Represents the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCCCC) with respect to community education and outreach activities; leverages local and national resources, such as NCI and other cancer centers. Supports CinEQUITY community-engaged, cancer health equity-focused research projects. Maintains recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assists with developing or amending study protocols and data collection tools; assists with building databases; and provides general administrative support. Applies research principles and relevant subject matter knowledge relevant to administer a research project. With a moderate level of direction, manages lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. Helps develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan. Supports data collection and analytical needs of research projects. Conducts literature reviews and helps write reports and manuscripts. Ensures project compliance with different policies, procedures, directives, and mandates. Takes responsibility for the following non-laboratory duties: transcribing and coding data; developing data collection instruments; presenting research; and recruiting and scheduling research subjects. Acquires higher-level skills and knowledge in the process. Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field. Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications: --- Preferred Qualifications Experience: Work experience in an academic medical center. Background engaging with community and faith-based organizations. Working knowledge of community-engaged research and fostering community-academic partnerships. Knowledge about and experiences with cervical cancer screening and follow-up care delivery processes. Knowledge about and experience with tobacco cessation services.
