Organization: WOCN Job Summary: Responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of ostomy care for patients; functions as a consultant for patients with draining wounds, fistulas, pressure sores, skin problems, and incontinence; develop nursing staff skills in ostomy; wound and skin care for optimal patient care. Responsible for coordinating a comprehensive program for the nursing care, education and rehabilitation of patients requiring wound, ostomy, and incontinence care. . SHIFT PRN weekend coverage. Minimum requirement of 3 shifts per month, scheduled on Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday based on department scheduling needs. Typical hours are 7:00 AM-3:30 PM, with some flexibility in shift hours. Candidates may also have the option to work two 12-hour shifts per month in place of three 8-hour shifts, based on scheduling needs. Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Team Join Vanderbilt University Hospital’s Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing team, providing specialized nursing care and clinical expertise to patients with wound, ostomy, and continence needs. This PRN opportunity supports weekend coverage and works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams across the hospital to promote high-quality, evidence-based patient care. Ideal Candidate: WOC certification required Approximately 5 years of relevant nursing experience preferred Strong clinical knowledge of wound, ostomy, and continence care Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary care teams Availability to meet the required weekend coverage schedule Why Join WOCN Team : Specialized clinical practice supporting patients with complex wound, ostomy, and continence needs Collaborative, multidisciplinary environment Opportunity to utilize advanced clinical expertise while supporting patients across the continuum of care PRN scheduling with a defined weekend commitment KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborates with and serves as consultant for other health team members in the management and education of in-patient and clinic patients with altered patterns of bowel or urinary elimination, fistulas, draining wounds, and altered skin integrity and evaluate achievement of desired outcomes. Collaborates with the appropriate departments to investigate and recommend best practice guidelines to improve and educate the safe and quality patient care related to wound, ostomy, continence care. Collaborates with other departments in the investigation, research, and follow-up of clinical studies. Recommend, Submit and maintain necessary reports and records pertaining to specialty. Collaborates with Supply Chain, clinical departments, and industry to investigate ostomy, wound, and incontinence related products to align with the VUMC pillar goals. Evidence-Based Practice (Advanced): Recognizes, Implements, and evaluates practice changes based on published research. Demonstrates expertise in applying evidence-based practices to challenging and complex situations. Wound Care (Advanced): Demonstrates the uppermost levels of expertise in applying wound care in challenging and complex situations. Often takes a lead role in highly pressurized situations when there is a need to achieve results. Consistently delivers nursing services in a creative and imaginative manner while setting a standard for others. Actively participates in outside professional organizations and forums. Contributes in the development of nursing best practices for the organization. Continence Care (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of the incontinence care in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering incontinence care services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job. Ostomy Care (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of the ostomy care in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering ostomy care services without requiring support and instruction from others.
