Day (United States of America) Location Olympia Center Job Description General Summary:     The President & Chief Development Officer (“CDO”) is the senior level strategist, fundraiser and leader, responsible for the oversight and management of all aspects of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago Foundation (“Foundation”).  The CDO is nominated by the President and Chief Executive Officer of Children’s Hospital of Chicago Medical Center (“Medical Center”) and elected by the Medical Center’s Board of Directors.  Charged with the responsibility of developing and delivering the most ambitious comprehensive Campaign in the history of Lurie Children’s, the CDO will lead the Foundation team to maximize financial support for the Medical Center and all of its affiliates, including Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s of Chicago (Hospital), Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute (Research Institute) and the Lurie Children’s Medical Group, Inc. (LCMG) (collectively, “Lurie Children’s”). The CDO works closely with the Medical Center CEO, members of the Hospital, Research Institute, and Foundation Boards of Directors, the Hospital’s leadership team, Department Chairs, Division Chiefs and faculty across the Medical Center.  The CDO reports directly to the Medical Center CEO and serves as a member of the senior leadership team and as an advisor on all issues related to philanthropy, and will have significant interaction with top-tier donors and volunteers.  Travel required. Essential Job Functions: Development and implement a strategic fundraising program: The CDO develops and implements short- and long-term strategies to increase philanthropic revenue to support the Medical Center’s mission.  Provides vision and leadership to guide strategic fundraising programs across all donor constituencies, with particular attention to the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship to transformational donor prospects.  In addition, the CDO is actively involved with the leadership of several affiliated organizations that advocate, promote, and raise funds for Lurie Children’s.  The CDO analyzes fundraising potential, sets objectives, and works with the staff to achieve stated goals. Institutional leadership: The CDO serves as member of the senior leadership team and will be an active participant in the philanthropic support of Medical Center’s strategic plan, and other strategic priorities.  The CDO works collaboratively with other leaders to further the priorities of the organization.  The CDO coordinates communication with Lurie Children’s administration and medical staff related to fundraising priorities.  Supervise and lead the foundation management team: The CDO is required to manage people, budget and operations, problem-solve in a fast-paced environment, listen carefully and build consensus.  S/he actively participates in recruiting, retaining and motivating staff and serves as a mentor to more junior staff members.  The CDO develops an organizational structure and policies to ensure the effectiveness of fundraising efforts. Personally manage a pool of rated prospects: Facilitates the solicitation of major gifts and principal gifts in alignment with Lurie Children’s priorities.  The CDO is responsible for management of a group of top-tier prospects.  S/he performs direct solicitation independently, or in tandem with the Medical Center CEO, board members, volunteers, or other Hospital leaders. Communicate the Foundations’ objectives to a wider audience: The CDO plays a visible role in enthusiastically communicating the objectives of the Foundation.  S/he delivers presentations to physicians, caregivers, volunteer leaders, donors, and friends, traveling as required.  The CDO oversees development of communication materials related to philanthropy. Engage and Support the Foundation Board: Serve as a member of the Board of Directors of Lurie Children’s Foundation, staffing committees as appropriate across the Boards of the Medical Center.  Support the work of the Foundation Board, including educating members of Lurie Children’s emerging fundraising priorities.  Engage Board members in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of top-tier prospects.  Work in conjunction with members of the Board to recruit and retain new Board members.  Optimize volunteer structure and framework. The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations in accordance with Lurie Children’s policy. Other job functions as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: Manage and motivate senior Foundation leaders comprising the management team, who are in turn responsible for the leadership of the Foundation’s team members.
