Organization Overview The Production Division is a department within the Facilities and Operations Directorate that provides mechanical, architectural, and civil services to build, support and maintain the Lab's infrastructure. Facilitate shipping, receiving, inventory control, and small equipment/office moves. Within the Production Division we have the Plumbing Shop that’s responsible for the Facilities and Operation owned building systems and support such as, Preventive & Corrective Maintenance - Building Domestic Water / Compressed Air / Fire Suppression Systems / Backflow Preventers / Emergency Eyewash & Safety Showers / Deionized & Distilled Water Systems / Plumbing Fixtures / Propane / Process Drains / Vacuum Systems / Program Equipment. Position Description The Production Division is seeking a Plumber A to perform maintenance/installation of piping, plumbing, and tubing systems, and components. Under minimum supervision lays out, constructs or installs, repairs, and maintains water and gas distribution systems, related facilities and auxiliary equipment and equipment utilizing water, gas and heat distribution services. The hours of operation/shift for this position are Mon-Friday 8am to 4:30pm. This position reports to the Multi Trade Supervisor. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Perform maintenance, installation, and repair of piping, plumbing, and tubing systems and components, potentially in a nuclear facility Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain mechanical/piping and tubing systems and their components Use appropriate tools and techniques to braze, solder, cement, thread, roll-groove, and press pipe and tubing Operate shop equipment, test jigs, and use piping/tubing installation/repair/maintenance tools, as well as basic hand and power tools Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain hazardous material and waste systems Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain fire systems, fire protection wet and dry systems Couple and align mechanical/piping, tubing systems, and components Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on piping and tubing systems and components Read and interpret drawings and sketches proficiently Review scope with customers to define job requirements, offer recommendations for improving product outcomes, and provide status updates on jobs in progress to project managers and management. Resolve problems and ensure customer satisfaction Participate in work planning walk-downs, material identification/ recommendation, man-hour estimating, and material procurement as required Maintain good housekeeping practices by keeping work areas clean and organized Maintain compliance with all Lab required training and safety programs Work on drawings, schematics, and work specifications to produce successful outcomes using modern techniques and tools of the trade. Follow safety and PPE requirements when working in Labs and Radiological work area Use computers and associated software to prepare logs and reports, send and receive emails, complete computer-based training and enter time The above list of duties is not all inclusive of every duty performed by this position, but it does include the major elements in the job. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: High School Diploma or GED. 6-yrs total experience composed of 4-yrs apprenticeship plus 2-yrs experience, or 6-8 yrs. total experience composed of formal trade school plus minimum 2-yrs experience, or 8-yrs experience (no formal training). Obtain Backflow Tester Certification with the first 6 months of employment. Demonstrate commitment to working safely, acting ethically, and taking personal accountability for operational excellence. Knowledge of commercial and industrial plumbing systems, including piping, valves, fittings, fixtures, and associated components. Knowledge of plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair practices, including proper methods, materials, tools, and equipment. Knowledge of fire sprinkler and fire protection systems, including wet and dry piping systems. Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques used to identify and correct plumbing, piping, and mechanical system deficiencies. Knowledge of plumbing and piping safety practices, including proper isolation, lockout/tagout, PPE, and safe work procedures. Knowledge of proper testing and inspection methods used to verify the integrity and safe operation of plumbing and piping systems. Must have a valid NYS Driver’s license Environmental, Health, and Safety Requirements: Must meet physical requirements of the position, including but not limited to: • Ability to do heavy lifting > 30 lbs. • Ability to work in confined spaces. • Ability to climb fixed and portable ladders. • Able to work outdoors/cold and warm environments. • Able to work around moving machinery. • Able to use of power and air operate hand-tools. • Have physical coordination dexterity and balance. • Ability to wear proper PPE such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection. • Able to use a respirator and other related safety equipment.
