Physician Assistant Infusion MGBCI

Job Summary The Oncology Infusion Department is seeking a (40 hours/week) Physician Assistant to join the Infusion Center team at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The Infusion APP will work within our adult Infusion Center to serve as an infusion first responder, promote infusion service access and efficiency and may provide urgent care/symptom management in close collaboration with longitudinal medical oncology providers to patients with solid tumors, hematologic malignancies, or classical hematologic conditions. The oncology infusion APP may practice clinically at MGBCI BWH licensed practices. PRIMARY RESPONSBILITIES: • The APP will work closely with oncology primary teams to engage in the care of patients with complex diagnoses, serving as a first responder for acute reactions and medical emergencies within the infusion department. • Works collaboratively with longitudinal oncology teams and nursing staff to ensure continuity of care across the care continuum • Provides consultation to both nurses and providers to maintain and improve access to infusion services • Writes, modifies and addends orders in accord with current guidelines • Maintains and practices in accord with practitioner guidelines per state and hospital regulations • Serves on appropriate intra and interdepartmental committees • Collaborates with unit staff, providers, professional development managers, APP leader, nurse director and other health care professionals to meet staff and patient educational needs • Monitors patient outcomes in accordance with defined standards of patient care • Supports and conducts research efforts to advance knowledge and to promote research-based practice. • Facilitates patient movement through the system and efficient use of resources through interdepartmental collaboration • Evaluates own practice and program effectiveness • Responsible for own professional growth and maintenance of required credentials • Maintains the standards and educational requirements specific to the position and licensure SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Demonstrated competence in specialized area. Ability to effectively communicate clinical information, care plans, etc. to medical and lay audiences; able to educate patients and their families regarding routine and complex medical information. Skilled in creating appropriate documentation and use of electronic medical records to consistently provide high quality and timely documentation including progress notes, sign-off notes, and discharge planning. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team; can effectively influence and lead as necessary. Effectively uses analytical skills and problem-solving techniques in both clinical and operational matters. Is willing to obtain procedural proficiency for medical oncology specific procedures. Training will be provided. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: No direct reports; may indirectly provide leadership and guidance to less seasoned and new staff FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: No direct budgetary responsibility Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using Mass General Brigham resources WORKING CONDITIONS: Infusion Unit within BWH Licensed Practices This is a full time, 40h position (four 10-hour work days). Onsite Experience: 1. Minimum two years (actively practicing) clinical Physician Assistant experience caring for an oncology-focused patient population required. 2. Demonstrated experience as a responding clinician/PA to acute adverse reactions required. Summary The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. Yes Essential Functions -Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting. -Performs complete histories and physical examinations. -Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests. -Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings. -Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures. -Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries. -Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population. Qualifications Education Master's Degree Physician Assistant required Licenses and Credentials Physician Assistant [State License] - MA PA License required Experience Experience as a licensed Physician Assistant preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings. - Ability to maintain quality control standards. - Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. - Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. - Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
