More Than Just Care, It’s Community   Imagine doing meaningful work in a place where people vacation. That’s life at Munson Healthcare - northern Michigan’s largest healthcare system, with eight award-winning community hospitals serving over half a million residents across 29 counties.   What is the Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program:  The selected apprentices will receive paid on the job training as a Medical Assistant at a Munson Healthcare facility while attending lectures and laboratory training through Baker College's 9-month Medical Assistant Certificate Program or Penn Fosters Online Medical Assistant Program.  At the completion of the programs, the apprentices will have the opportunity to complete the AAMA certification exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant.   In collaboration with Michigan Works!,  Munson Healthcare will be covering the cost of the Tuition for the selected apprentices in exchange for a service commitment at the completion of the program.   A Day in the Life  : What is a Medical Assistant?  A Medical Assistant is an allied health professional who supports Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers in a clinic setting. The role includes both clinical and administrative duties and frequent interaction with patients and their families.   Administrative Duties may include:  Answering phones  Greeting patients  Documenting and updating medical records  Coding and filling out insurance forms  Scheduling appointments  Arranging for hospital admissions, referrals and laboratory services  Using computer applications  Clinical Duties may include:   Taking medical histories  Explaining treatment and procedures to patients  Timely follow through and completion of referral requests  Preparing patients for examination  Assisting the physician during exams  Collecting and preparing lab specimens  Performing basic laboratory tests including blood draws  Instructing patients via standardized pathways and protocols  Preparing and administrating medications as directed by the physician  Injections  Removing sutures and changing dressings  Other clinical services as required by specialty    Compensation:  Starting Pay : $17.01 / hour  After completion of 180 day introductory period, increase to:  $17.26/ hour  Upon receiving certification : $20.44 - $24.52 (commensurate with experience)    Application and Selection Process:  Apply online to this job posting!  You will be contacted by a Recruiter for a phone interview  Interview with Munson Healthcare Managers  If selected to continue you will complete a paper application for the program and apply for admission to Baker College   If offered an apprenticeship, apply for funding with Michigan Works!
