Over 10- 12 weeks , you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for a variety of building types while working closely with experienced engineers and consultants.   You'll support project documentation, coordination, and job site observations while collaborating across disciplines to meet project goals and client expectations. The team supports hospitality, mixed use, office/commercial, and MEP work, with a portfolio led by aviation and urban commercial interiors, advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.   At a Glance   Location: New York, NY   Discipline: Mechanical   Markets: Hospitality; Mixed Use; Office/Commercial; MEP   Ownership: 100% employee-owned (ESOP)   Work Schedule: Full-time hybrid, 10- 12 week summer program   Program Length: 10- 12 week summer program   Sponsorship: Not available   What You'll Do   Assist with design portions of a project related to discipline systems according to code and IMEG standards   Assist with researching resources for commercially available equipment   Assist with good client relations, project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files   Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical and equipment suppliers   Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and instructions from client promptly while monitoring project design progress   Assist with review of all project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check   Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information   Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required by the contract services agreement   What You'll Bring   Required   Education and Experience   Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required   Skills and Abilities   Strong interest in design consulting   Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook   Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software   Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups   Preferred   Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred   Physical Requirements   Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds   Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull   Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises   About the Team   Hospitality, mixed use, and office/commercial work with a current portfolio led by aviation and terminal assignments and urban commercial interiors.   Dense urban MEP and fire protection coordination for airports, terminals, retail and office fit-outs, and landlord infrastructure work.   Additional aviation work includes JFK T5/T8, LGA, BWI, SAN, and SEA, along with related advertising, telecom, and terminal packages.   Heavy New York-area retail, office, restaurant, and tenant review work, plus select condo , residential, adaptive reuse, and hospitality assignments with recurring telecom, AV, lighting, and security coordination.   Recent work includes JFK Terminal 6 Stage 3 2026, Transportation / Aviation, and Marriott Tribute Hotel / Washington, DC / New Marriott Tribute Hotel in DC, Hospitality.   Why IMEG   We put people at the center of who we are, creating positive outcomes for people, communities, and our planet.   A paid internship with real, hands-on project work, not busywork   A structured program with an assigned mentor and a cohort of fellow interns   A clear path to full-time: many interns and co-ops convert to full-time roles at IMEG   IDEA Program: a firm-wide innovation accelerator where employees across every discipline develop and scale new tools, from VR and AI to carbon-reduction technology   Real impact from day one: at IMEG, an intern once became our Virtual Reality leader   Exposure across disciplines and offices at a 100+ office, employee-owned firm   MEG, our in-house AI platform, helps employees find information and build agents that streamline project workflows and calculations   State of New York Pay Range: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour   The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location.   Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.   Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
