Divergent is building the new industrial age. Every day, our teams design, manufacture, and assemble advanced systems for some of the world’s most demanding industries. Our integrated engineering and manufacturing platform transforms complex designs into production-ready solutions, helping customers move faster, build smarter, and deliver critical systems when they matter most. Divergent is a qualified Tier 1 supplier to global automotive OEMs and supports leading U.S. aerospace and defense companies.  Join us and help push the boundaries of what can be built. Purpose The Mechanical Engineer II designs and develops mechanical components and subsystems for Divergent’s internally developed Monolith One laser powder bed fusion platform, printers in the same class, next-generation platforms, and adjacent equipment. This is a hands-on engineering role responsible for delivering defined mechanical design efforts from concept through detailed design, build, testing, and release. Working with senior engineers and cross-functional teams, this individual will apply sound engineering fundamentals, solve technical problems, and contribute to the development, reliability, and continuous improvement of complex industrial equipment. The Role Own defined mechanical components and subsystems through concept development, detailed design, prototyping, validation, release, and integration. Translate established technical and operational requirements into practical mechanical designs, identifying constraints, interfaces, and acceptance criteria with support as needed. Develop concepts and detailed designs using CAD models, drawings, GD&T, tolerance analyses, engineering calculations, component selections, and bills of material. Apply mechanical engineering fundamentals across structures, mechanisms, precision motion, fluids, thermal systems, sealing, enclosures, and machine integration. Evaluate design alternatives and make informed tradeoffs across performance, reliability, safety, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, and schedule. Identify technical risks and execute appropriate engineering analysis, prototyping, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and design iteration to validate designs. Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, suppliers, and other stakeholders to resolve technical issues and ensure successful implementation. Maintain accurate technical documentation and execute engineering changes through release, supporting procurement, manufacturing planning, validation, and deployment. Support machine integration, troubleshooting, and fleet investigations, identifying root causes and implementing improvements to existing hardware. Communicate technical decisions, progress, risks, and challenges clearly, seeking guidance or escalating issues when appropriate. Contribute to design reviews, continuous improvement initiatives, and the development of future printer platforms and subsystems. Basic Qualifications Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Demonstrated experience designing mechanical components or subsystems through detailed design, build, testing, and release. Proficiency in 3D CAD, engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, component selection, and design for manufacturability and assembly. Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals and the ability to apply them to practical design problems. Ability to independently solve defined engineering problems, evaluate design alternatives, and exercise sound technical judgment within established requirements and constraints. Hands-on experience developing prototypes and assembling, testing, or troubleshooting mechanical equipment. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, communicate technical reasoning, and take ownership of assigned engineering deliverables. Ability to manage multiple technical tasks, identify risks, and seek guidance when encountering unfamiliar or complex problems. Ability to perform hands-on work around industrial equipment and occasionally lift or carry up to 25 lb. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter. Experience with laser powder bed fusion, additive manufacturing, industrial automation, robotics, or other complex capital equipment. Experience designing precision mechanisms, motion systems, fluid systems, thermal systems, vacuum systems, structural assemblies, or machine enclosures. Experience supporting mechanical subsystem development through prototype, verification, productionization, or commissioning. Familiarity with engineering change control, configuration management, supplier collaboration, contract manufacturing, or release of production hardware. Work Environment This is an on-site role performed across office, laboratory, prototype-build, and manufacturing-floor environments. Work involves regular interaction with industrial equipment and may include moving machinery, elevated noise, metal powders, inert gas systems, lasers, and high-power electrical equipment. Required PPE and EHS controls apply. Occasional travel and schedule flexibility may be required during critical design, build, integration, testing, or commissioning activities. Compensation At Divergent, our pay range is based on the level of the job. For this role, we will consider candidates at levels E04 - E06 as evaluated through our interview process.  Engineer II / E04: $111,300 - $153,040 Senior Engineer / E05: $128,520 - $185,130 Staff Engineer / E06: $155,540 - 213,840 Pay Range $111,300 — $204,090 USD What We Offer Our Regular, Full-Time Employees: Holistic Compensation Package: Enjoy a world-class compensation package that includes a competitive salary, equity plan, and discretionary results-based incentive bonus oppor
