Basic Function Underwrite and approve life insurance applications within a specified age and face amount in accordance with Farm Bureau policy and procedure. Perform administrative and general office duties requiring some analysis and individual judgement in the procuring of information necessary to classify life insurance risks. Principal Accountabilities Accountabilities should reflect job functions requiring at least 5% of an incumbent’s time commitment. Respond to and resolve customer service requests according to FBL Financial Group, Inc., policies in a prompt, efficient and courteous manner for external customers, departmental staff, and other FBL personnel at all times. 2. Coordinate underwriting activities, including escalations and resolve problems related to service providers. 3. Provide underwriting training and resolution of problems for agents as necessary. 4. Underwrite life insurance applications within a specified age and face amount. Order necessary requirements on applications in excess of limit for underwriter review. 5. Review and approve underwriting data elements including prescription profiles, medical data, motor vehicle reports and interviews. 6. Initiate Attending Physician Statements based on certain medical histories and provide a summary for the underwriter. 7. Review new cases/in force changes for the underwriter to set the case up for review. 8. Assist the underwriter in management of case files by generating requests for information to agents, medical facilities and vendors; maintaining the integrity of the pending file; and tracking movement of files. 9. Create, produce, and engage in correspondence for both internal and external communication channels. 10. Assist with training new employees and testing new processes/procedures. Non-Essential Functions: Progress towards industry education is expected. Perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned. Qualifications/Know-How 1. High school diploma or equivalent plus two years relevant experience required. 2. Loma ACS designation, knowledge of Windows and MS Office preferred. 3. Independent thinking, analysis and judgement required. 4. Ability to handle confidential information appropriately. 5. Oral and written communication skills as appropriate to this position. 6. Reasonably regular and predictable attendance. 7. Ability to read, write and speak the English language. Nature Scope The Life Underwriting Department selects and classifies all risks for new life insurance and for changes in coverage to existing life insurance policies. The Life Underwriting Associate is responsible for underwriting and approving life insurance applications within a specified age and face amount in accordance with Farm Bureau policy and procedure. This individual is also responsible for c oordinating activity and resolving problems related to service providers. Will be expected to assist the underwriting teams on a day-to-day basis. Internal contacts include members of the Underwriting Department in both the Underwriting, Service and Issue areas, and staff members in the Accounting and Brokerage departments. External contacts include members of the agency force, various vendors, paramedical and inspection companies.
