Organization: Radiology APPs Job Summary: This is a hybrid clinical and procedural APP role. The APP acts as an adjunct to the Interventional Radiologists' practice focusing on the clinical and procedural management of patients treated by the section of Interventional Radiology (IR). Clinical: The APP is skilled in consenting, writing H&Ps, orders, plans of care, problem lists, performing medication reconciliation, discharge summaries, and inpatient rounding. The APP conducts new and return patient visits in the IR clinic, writing structured clinical notes meeting billing compliance standards. Procedural: The APP is skilled in non-vascular invasive radiologic procedures such as paracenteses, thoracenteses, thyroid biopsies, and other subcutaneous biopsies. The APP is responsible for writing procedure notes that meet compliance standards. . DEPARTMENT SUMMARY Interventional Radiology (IR) is a subspecialty of radiology that utilizes advanced imaging techniques to guide minimally invasive procedures that are performed to diagnose and treat a broad range of medical conditions. IR has something to offer in the management of patients of all ages with all types of diseases involving almost every organ system, and we are often able to provide an alternative to surgery or a targeted therapy for treatment when other options are not available. Because IR procedures are minimally invasive, they are frequently associated with shorter recovery times and lower complication rates than surgical procedures may be. IR performs approximately 7,500 procedures at Vanderbilt University Hospital and about 2,000 procedures each year at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. We also see approximately 2,500 patients in the IR clinic at VUH and 750 patients in the Vanderbilt Vein Clinic at One Hundred Oaks annually. LOCATION: Vanderbilt University Medical Center POSITION SHIFT - Monday - Friday (clinic hours) No call/weekends/holidays KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care. In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manages patients’ overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses. Orders, performs, interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated. Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions. Prescribes therapeutic interventions for both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic and surgical, needed to achieve expected outcomes. Utilizes evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care. Initiates appropriate referrals and consultations Provides specialty specific consultation services upon request and within a specialty scope of practice.
