Description of Work Reporting to the HVAC Supervisor at a multi-custody male correctional facility, this position provides journey level work in the areas of Heating/Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Other responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Designing, installing services and repairing HVAC energy control management systems in renovations and construction. 2. Assisting in installing electrical conduit and wiring for HVAC electrical circuits. 3. Performing preventive maintenance. 4. Instructing lower level assistants and offenders in performing less technical repairs. 5. Providing technical guidance and support to other staff members in HVAC energy control management system. 6. Working by instruction from supervisor, by policies, the NC building code manuals, OSHA regulations, and safety policies. 7. Requiring great physical effort in the installation, repair and removal of HVAC systems. 8. Working with close custody and minimum custody offenders and having frequent contact with offenders as needed. 9. Performing repairs on equipment outside his/her specialty trade as needed. 10. Being diversified and having general knowledge of several trades. About Central Prison :  Central Prison in Raleigh, NC has been in continuous service since 1884. It serves as the admission point into prison for adult male felons sentenced to 20 years or more and is the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. It also houses special populations, including death row and safe-keepers.  While security requires that certain offenders remain in their cells, there are more than 260 offender job assignments that include working in the kitchen, laundry or canteen. Offenders also work as barbers, janitors and clerks. Offenders can attend substance abuse group therapy meetings, Bible studies or worship services.
