In this role, you will help ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of critical fire life safety systems across the facility while supporting a safe and efficient workplace environment. The Fire Life Safety Operating Engineer will participate in fire alarm system installations, preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, and vendor coordination activities while partnering closely with engineering teams and client stakeholders. What your day-to-day will look like: Perform preventative maintenance activities, inspections, and fire life safety system testing to ensure all systems remain fully operational and compliant. Escort fire life safety vendors during maintenance and repair activities while ensuring minimal disruption to building operations and client activities. Coordinate with the Chief Engineer, Lead Fire Life Safety Operating Engineer, and vendors to schedule preventative maintenance activities 6–12 months in advance. Support fire alarm system troubleshooting, device replacement, repairs, and system restoration activities as needed. Assist with the development and maintenance of SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs related to fire system operations and emergency procedures. Initiate and close Change Controls within ServiceNow in accordance with established operational processes. Conduct safety checks on malfunctioning equipment, identify corrective actions, and support timely resolution of operational issues. Maintain inventory levels for parts, tools, and equipment required for maintenance, repairs, and new installations. Promote a professional, safe, and clean work environment while following all departmental policies related to hazardous materials handling and workplace safety. Required qualifications: 2+ years of experience in facility or plant engineering maintenance environments. At least 1 year of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing fire life safety systems and equipment. Working knowledge of electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems within commercial facilities. Familiarity with applicable fire and life safety codes, standards, and operational requirements. Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and support the full fire alarm system infrastructure. Experience coordinating with vendors, contractors, and internal engineering teams in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Commitment to maintaining a high level of professionalism in both appearance and client interactions. Preferred qualifications: Experience working in mission critical, corporate, or large commercial facilities environments. BAS Controls experience preferred. Familiarity with ServiceNow or similar work order and change management systems. Experience supporting preventative maintenance planning and long-term scheduling activities. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, system documentation, and equipment manuals. Knowledge of emergency response procedures and fire system operational protocols.
