Job Description The position is   located   Fort Collins, CO , working in the   Facilities Management   Department.    This position does   not   have   formal   supervisory authority. This   full   time  nonexempt   position. Unit   Statement   Trades Maintenance Services exist to support Facilities Management, Administration Services Division, and Colorado State University strategic plans. To provide, within the limit of its   allocated   resources, quality trades maintenance services, which includes all structural, mechanical, and electrical systems, and small construction project management. These services are to create and   maintain   an aesthetically pleasing and functional environment that meets or exceeds the University’s needs for instruction,   research   and outreach.   The Fire Systems Group Shop exists to provide quality services including, but not limited to, Fire alarm systems,   fire suppression systems, fire inspections, the life safety reporting system, fire pumps, backflow prevention   elevator fire hat testing ,   and fire extinguisher monthly inspections . These   functions contribute to life safety,   convenience   and quality for the benefit of the University Community   in order to   support the goals and   objectives   of the University, Facilities Services and Trades Maintenance Services.   Position Summary     The Fire Suppression Technician position exists to   provide assistance to   the FSG group   preventive maintenance program for the Fire Suppression systems   including Backflow prevention devices. Under supervision this position will test and inspect Fire Suppression systems, and when needed Elevators, and Fire Extinguishers vital to the Universities infrastructure according to NFPA 25 & NFPA 72 and others and to   provide assistance   when needed for service on these systems. This position will provide entry level   expertise   to make decisions that balance the mandated Safety Policy and Code Compliance, creating a building environment conducive to a safe and productive occupancy.   Specific duties include, but are not limited to:   Fire Suppression Preventive Maintenance Develop and carry out planned maintenance schedules and procedures to maximize fire Sprinkler reliability per the NFPA 25, or Facilities Services Standards. Carry out elevator monthly PMs along   with monthly Fire Extinguisher PM when needed. Maintain records for consistency in the maintenance of existing equipment and documentation for the building files.   Generate maintenance reports of system condition of records and future references.   Develop,   institute   and keep   accurate   up-to-date records. Maintain building floor plans, including device locations   of   all suppression equipment. Preserve and update inventory records of all fire sprinkler equipment. Preserve and update testing and maintenance files for all fire sprinkler systems. Preserve and update blueprints for each fire sprinkler system.   Generate reports for reference   in regard to   system condition: reliability.   Fire Suppression Service & Repair Repairs system deficiencies found during PM process    Other Duties as assigned      Conditions of Employment    Pre-employment Criminal Background Check ( required   for new hires .)   Pre-employment Physical - extra heavy lifting.   Valid driver's license - Colorado regular    Essential Services Designation - Required to be on duty to perform essential and/or emergency services of the agency without delay or interruption.   Shift Work -   Special events .   On-call Status   In-person   8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. position    Minimum Qualifications:    To be considered for this position, candidates must   demonstrate   in the application materials:   One (1) year of   fire suppression and backflow testing certification   relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position .     Preferred Qualifications:    The highly desired candidate will   possess   the following knowledge, skills, abilities, personal characteristics, and experience   directly related   and critical to this position:   1) Knowledge of Fire Alarms and Testing procedures per NFPA 72   2) Knowledge of Fire Suppression Testing Procedures per NFPA 25   3) Fire Suppression Installation   4) Backflow Prevention Device Service & Repair   5) Strong communication and organizational skills.   6) Self-motivation and initiative.   7) Attention to detail.   8) Strong teamwork and problem-solving abilities.   Application Documents:   Resume  Cover Letter  Certifications/Licenses   (backflow certification license – NFPA 25 is helpful but not   required)  Salary Range $52,032 - $64,446 Employee Benefits Colorado State University is not just a workplace; it’s a thriving community that’s transforming lives and improving the human condition through world-class teaching, research, and service.
