Role
About the Role
There’s a difference between managing a Financial Center and leading one.
The best Financial Center leaders don't lead from behind a desk. They're present in the work—coaching an associate through a challenging conversation, helping a Member find the right solution, recognizing someone who's doing great work, and stepping in when their team needs them.
At Southland Credit Union, our Financial Centers are where our Members experience what makes us different. We’re a community-based, Member-owned credit union with deep Southern California roots.
As a Financial Center Supervisor, you'll lead a team of Universal Bankers while helping create the kind of Financial Center experience that makes Members want to come back. You’ll lead from the floor, work alongside your associates, and create an environment where people feel supported, challenged, and accountable. Your team will look to you not only for direction, but for coaching, judgment, and an example of what great Member service looks like.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
What You'll Be Part of This role sits at the intersection of people, Members, and performance.
You’ll lead a team of Universal Bankers and help them become confident, capable financial professionals who can do more than process a transaction. You’ll coach them to ask better questions, recognize opportunities to help, have meaningful financial wellness conversations, and connect Members with solutions that support their goals.
You’ll also have a direct hand in the performance of your Financial Center. You’ll pay attention to what the numbers—and your Members and associates—are telling you. Membership and deposit growth, lending, referrals, digital adoption, Member experience, staffing, and operational results will all be part of the picture. Your job isn't simply to review those results; it’s to understand what is driving them and help your team improve.
And when the work gets complicated, you’ll be there. You’ll step into difficult Member situations, remove barriers for your team, address performance concerns, adjust to changing business needs, and make sure the day-to-day operation of the Financial Center continues to meet Southland’s standards.
Your Leadership Will Shape the Team We believe our leaders should know the work, not just oversee it.
You’ll spend time observing Member interactions, recognizing strong performance, providing coaching in the moment, and having the conversations that help people grow. You’ll set clear expectations and follow through when those expectations aren't being met.
You’ll also be responsible for building the next generation of Southland leaders. That means recognizing potential, developing high-performing associates, creating opportunities for growth, and building the bench strength your Financial Center—and our organization—will need in the future.
As Southland continues to evolve, you'll also have a voice in how our Financial Centers operate. You'll partner with the Director of Financial Centers and other leaders to implement new approaches, improve processes, strengthen consistency across locations, and keep our associates focused on what matters most: serving Members and building relationships.
Knowledge and Skills
What Helps You Succeed Experience • 3–5 years of experience in financial center operations, retail banking, or financial services, with experience in Member-facing service, relationship development, and operational execution.• 2–3 years of supervisory or lead experience, including coaching, developing, and holding associates accountable.• A track record of developing strong teams and improving service, growth, operational, or Member experience results.• Experience working across multiple locations or within a networked environment is a plus.
Education • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Management, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
You’ll be at your best in this role if you: • Enjoy developing people and believe good coaching can change someone's trajectory.• Know how to balance Member advocacy with business results.• Can look at performance data and turn it into meaningful action.• Communicate expectations clearly and aren't afraid to have difficult conversations when necessary.• Understand relationship-based financial services and the role trust plays in Member relationships.• Stay organized and follow through, even when priorities shift.• Build productive relationships with colleagues across the organization.• Understand the importance of compliance, risk management, and sound operational practices.• Are comfortable using business systems, reporting tools, and standard office technology.
Why Southland? Southland has been part of Southern California communities for 90 years. What began in 1936 as a credit union serving Los Angeles County employees has grown into a community-focused financial institution serving Members throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Through that growth, our purpose has remained remarkably simple: people helping people.
Today, our opportunity is to continue growing while protecting what makes that purpose meaningful. That takes leaders who understand that strong financial results and exceptional Member relationships aren't competing priorities—they should reinforce one another.
If you're looking for a leadership role where you can develop people, influence performance, stay close to the work, and help shape what the Financial Center experience looks like at Southland, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
