EPC Transmission Line Engineer

Leidos is seeking a Transmission Line Engineer to join our dynamic and exciting EPC Solutions Team. You'll design overhead and underground transmission systems for major developer and utility clients — real projects, real construction dates, real impact on how power moves across the country. What You'll Be Doing: Design & Analysis — Model and analyze transmission structures using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER, applying NESC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE, and related standards Project Development — Support projects from conceptual routing and engineering analysis through material procurement and construction-ready packages, through as-builts and project close-out Cross-Discipline Collaboration — Work alongside designers and engineers from other disciplines, plus project management teams, to keep designs moving toward the field Client Interface — Participate in client-facing project work, building the communication skills that set senior engineers apart Technical Growth — Work under the direct guidance of a licensed PE, with increasing ownership of design decisions as your judgment develops Key Responsibilities: Perform structure spotting and transmission line design in PLS-CADD to verify conductor clearances and loading under NESC or GO95 Design and analyze steel, wood, concrete, or fiberglass transmission structures using PLS-POLE, including structure selection and loading verification Underbuild/joint-use or attachment analysis, when required Perform foundation design or analysis for direct-embed and drilled-pier structures in MFAD or LPILE Prepare construction packages, including creating the basis of design, plan and profiles, staking sheets, bill of materials, structure data sheets, alignment maps, stringing charts, steel packages, foundation drawings, etc. Coordinate with the Construction prime on material procurement, material specs, and constructability Perform conductor selection and EMF studies Attend field walks and constructability reviews as needed Support proposal/estimating efforts What You Bring (Required Qualifications): Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering 2+ years of relevant experience in electric utility transmission line design Proficiency in both PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently while staying plugged into a team Candidates must be located in the United States to be considered Preferred Qualifications: Experience with TOWER EIT certification (or actively pursuing) Exposure to FAD, Mathcad, AutoCAD or MicroStation, LPILE, or GIS tools Familiarity with Bentley ProjectWise Why This Team: Mentorship that matters — direct PE supervision means real technical guidance, not just sign-offs Room to grow — clear path toward independent design ownership, EIT/PE milestones, and eventually leading your own scopes Genuine cross-training — early exposure to structural and construction considerations most engineers don't see until much later Work that ships — your designs become physical infrastructure, not shelved deliverables At Leidos, We pride ourselves on being a trusted and technology-focused solutions provider.
