Job Title Environmental Health and Safety Technician I Agency Texas A&M University Department Environmental Health & Safety Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location College Station, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description A Glimpse of the Job The Environmental Health and Safety Technician I, under supervision, performs assigned tasks to gain knowledge and actively contribute to supporting a designated area within an environmental health and safety program. Essential Duties Testing Fume Hoods Learns and assists with performing qualitative and quantitative testing on chemical fume hoods using specialized equipment Visually inspects chemical fume hoods and reports mechanical malfunctions for repairs Generates test reports and documents those results in the BioRAFT software system Updates BioRAFT with the most current user and equipment information Submits repair requests for chemical fume hood repairs and tracks them to ensure repairs are made in a timely manner Learns & Assists With Routine Functions Learns and assists with routine tasks in any functional area with regards to environmental health and safety Learns and assist with safety inspections Learns and assists with hazard identification and risk assessments Learns and assist with safety equipment calibration, inspections, and maintenance Learns and assists with proper waste management practices Records & Reporting Learns and assists with maintaining records of inspections and how to prepare reports Training & Development Participates in training and development opportunities Emergency Response Responds with other EHS personnel to emergencies and assists emergency responders as needed What You Need to Know Salary : $15.85/hour Cover Letter/Resume: A cover letter and resume are strongly recommended Required Education and Experience High School graduation or any equivalent combination of education and experience No prior experience required Required Licenses and Certifications Must have a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently and with others Preferred Qualifications One year of work experience or some college coursework Other Requirements and Factors: Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system This position is security sensitive  This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements Instructions to Applicants: Applications received by Texas A&M University must either have all job application data entered or a resume attached.
