EHS Manager

Tate & Lyle is a global provider of ingredients and solutions to the food, beverage,   and other industries,   operating   from more than 30 locations around the world .    Through large scale, efficient   manufacturing   plants .    Tate & Lyle turns raw materials into   distinctive ,   high-quality   ingredients .    The ingredients and solutions add taste, texture,   nutrition,   and increased functionality to products that millions of people around the world use or consume every day .    We are the secret ingredient to make   food extraordinary in some of the world’s best loved brands.   ROLE PURPOSE :    EHS manager will primarily drive and support site EHS management initiative s at the Van Buren Plant in line with the global Journey to EHS Excellence .    Together with the operations,   engineering,   and maintenance teams, the EHS   manager will improve overall safety performance of the Van Buren plant .    This position will have a broad range of   responsibilities within the environmental, health, and safety area for the Van Buren site.   The position   may   require the candidate to spend time ( 20 - 25 %) out in the plant.   SAFETY ACCOUNTABILITIES –   EHSQS  C RITICAL  R OLE  L EVEL   1   Protecting our people and the environment is foundation al to our business.   E ach team member is expected to support the Tate & Lyle   c ulture where   E nvironment,   H ealth,   F ood   S afety   and   Q uality   comply   with   all   EHSQS   policies, procedures, and regulations relevant to their work .    Team members are expected to speak up and intervene to prevent unsafe conditions   and to respe ct fellow workers and the   communities   in which we work.   Included in this is   abidance with our   L ife   S aving   P rinciples (LSP’s) and our   STOP   WORK   AUTHORITY   which are developed to strengthen our workplace safety, prevent   serious inju ry   loss of life .    Responsible for quality and food safety within their realm of control .       LEVEL 1 – ROLE   Drive   EHSQS   excellence culture and improv em ents   Develop/design   EHSQS   policies,   procedures,   and   best practices   Set   EHSQS   goals and   objectives   for the Van Buren plant    EHSQS MS element owner   All employees   are responsible for :   Compliance with procedures that implement the requirements of the   EHSQS   policies and procedures   Being responsible for   their own actions   Carrying out their work in a manner which does not present a risk to themselves, others, and the environment   Reporting all incidents, defects, hazards, and inadequacies of procedures so that   appropriate review   and corrective action can be taken.   Suggesting improvements and being active in the general improvement of all systems and methods of work to ensure   EHSQS   supports activities and services are carried out in a safe, environmentally responsible, reliable, and cost-effective manner.   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :   Champion and lead the overall site environmental and safety program   Develop and   establish   an eff ective EHS program that will yield year-on-year improvements   Work with site management   and corporate EHS to create/develop a strong safety culture at all levels of the   Van Buren site organization   Lead process safety management ( PSM) and   dust hazards analysis (DHA)   compliance   activities   Provide   technical   assistance   in   helping with hazard   elimination , prevention, and   mitigation and the resolution of other safety issues   Coach and   assist   manager/leaders in the development and implementation of effective saf ety program   Assis and   participate   with department and site-wide safety teams   Inspect, audit, and monitor equipment, work areas and work practices and procedures for compliance with established health and safety rules and   regulations   Lead the efforts to ensure action items stemming from incidents, near misses,   audits, inspections, and observations are   prioritized   and followed up to completion   Develop   safety   training, policy development, and safety promotion   Develop and help administer e-learning courses   Assist   with new and modified processes, equipment, product development   to ensure safety is included at all levels of design through implementation   Participate in safety and industrial hygiene reviews, routine safety   inspections   and incident investigations, making   appropriate recommendations   Assist   with the contract safety program   Maintain   accurate   plant safety statistics, incident rates, progress agains t   corporate and   plant   objectives   and provide routine updates to global safety   utilizing   the safety data management system   Participate in the Tate & Ly le Solutions network committee meetings and be the conduit for communication and information between the committee   Lead the roll out of new committee initiatives at the plant   Develop the budget for the site safety cost   center and manage spending to stay within budget   Work with local area safety professionals to share ideas within the Van   B uren co mmunity and   participate   in drills and emergency response    Prepare and   submit   all the environmental   regulatory reports to the city of Van Buren and Arkansas DEQ   Receive environment inspections and audits from the City of Van Buren and the EPA   SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED   Education (Candidate must   possess   either)   Bachelor ’s degree in industrial   or business   management   Minimum   of 5 years’ experience   working in an industrial EHS program   Experience   in conducting safety investigations   H ave   strong   communication , interpersonal, and observation skills   Extremely knowledgeable of OSHA, DOT, NFPA, EPA, DEQ   and other governmental regulations   Excellent analy tical and problem-solving skills   Strong leadership ,   trainin
