Description of Work In coordination with the Division Director, provide oversight and management of operations of North Carolina Museum of History, to include supervising of education, collections, curatorial, exhibits, and guest services. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: · Supervises Section Managers responsible for Education, Curatorial, Collections Management, Exhibits, and Guest Services · Provides strategic leadership, operational excellence and innovative revenue generation · Serves as a member of the Division of State History Museums Executive Leadership team · Translates strategic priorities into operational plans and measurable outcomes · Fosters collaboration across museum sections (departments) · Represents the museum and division with government officials, partners, professional organizations, and the public as needed Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Please note: Job postings close at 11:59:59 p.m. the night before the listed Posting End Date above. Applicants who possess the following are preferred: Comprehensive knowledge of museum operations and professional museum practices. Knowledge of collections stewardship, exhibitions, educational programming, and visitor engagement. Knowledge of facilities management, building operations, and security practices applicable to museums or comparable public institutions. Strong executive leadership and organizational management skills. Experience developing earned revenue strategies and business opportunities within nonprofit, museum, or public-sector environments. Position/Physical Requirements Must be available to work the schedule of Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm with occasional evenings and weekends required as needed. Master's degree in History, Business Administration, Public Administration, Marketing, Management, Education, or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution AND four years of progressively responsible experience in planning, directing, and managing all aspects of a business, governmental program, a museum, or a public historical program or institution; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Section/Unit Description The Deputy Director reports directly to the Director of the Division of State History Museums and serves as a member of the Division's leadership team. The position supervises department managers responsible for Education, Curatorial, Collections Management, Exhibits, Guest Services, Facilities and Building Maintenance, and Security. The Deputy Director regularly collaborates with other division leaders, state agencies, community organizations, educational institutions, donors, volunteers, contractors, and the public. The Deputy Director plays a critical leadership role in preserving and interpreting the state's history while ensuring the museum operates efficiently, safely, and sustainably. Through strategic leadership, operational excellence, and innovative revenue generation, the Deputy Director helps position the museum as a premier cultural destination and educational resource for residents and visitors alike.
