Description of Work Reporting to the Correctional Lieutenant II, this position is responsible for assigning lower level custody staff to an area or post, evaluating/overseeing officer activities and performance; and ensuring that the custody, security, and welfare of offenders are maintained. Job responsibilities include; but are not limited to, the following: - Coordinating work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures, and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy. - Ensuring that staff are fully trained, and that proper conduct, actions and procedures are being followed. - Maintaining facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance; health and safety of offenders. - Communicating effective instruction/direction during drills, distress codes, escapes, transporting offenders, searches and in emergency situations. - Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, offender living areas, and work areas for contraband. - Assisting with facility interviews. - Preparing and reviewing reports and completing performance evaluations on subordinate staff. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
