It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work Reporting to the Associate Warden of Programs at a minimum custody correctional facility, this position serves as a Classification and Re-Entry Manager and will direct programming for the re-entry of offenders. Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Administering programs with a broad scope and complexity at a minimum custody correctional facility. 2. Directing major programs as the direct contact for transitional re-entry services, both in-house and within the community. 3. Assisting with ensuring that Community-Based Programs are ran efficiently according to NCDAC policy. Additional program areas are Offender Classification and Correctional Programs (Incentive Wage, Adult Basic Education, Volunteer Programs, Religion, Recreation Residential Substance Abuse and Supportive Counseling). 4. Meeting with local constituents and the Division of Community Supervision (DCS) staff and maintaining positive working relationships. 5. Supervising 3 Program Supervisors and subordinate staff who are responsible for the implementation, development and the maintenance of the programs on a daily basis. 6. Conducting in-house audits on all Programs Supervisors and their staff’s caseloads to ensure compliance with Programs Standards and Case Management Policy. 7. Coordinating programs and custody staff. 8. Serving in a custody role during emergency situations, such as disturbances and escapes. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the Minimum Education and Experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences are not required but applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Documented experience with report writing. Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week)  with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business needs. About Wake Correctional Center Wake Correctional Center in Raleigh is a minimum-security prison for adult males. It is primarily a “work” unit in that 80 percent of the offenders leave the facility each day for incentive wage work assignments in various state agencies in the Wake County area. Offenders also work at other area adult correctional-facilities and Correction Enterprises operations. There are also offenders nearing their release date that participate on the work release program, leaving the facility to work for businesses in the community. Incentive wage work assignments are also available at the prison in the food service, clothes house, janitorial, landscaping, maintenance, canteen, and recreation areas. Wake Technical Community College works with the prison to provide full-time vocational classes in Certified Communications, Heating/Air Conditioning and Electrical Wiring. Part-time classes in Blueprint Reading and Horticulture are also available. Educational classes in GED preparation, college-level courses and college correspondence classes are available.
