This role supports the dimensional verification of a family of advanced, high-precision hardware and tooling built in-house at Blue Origin. These are not commodity parts inspected against loose tolerances. They are complex, geometrically demanding components whose features must be verified to micron-class accuracy before they are cleared to move downstream. As a CMM Technician, you are the person who confirms the hardware is what the drawing says it is, and your measurement is the record everyone downstream trusts. As a Technician II you are a core contributor who makes that real. You will operate coordinate measuring machines, run and adjust measurement routines, and generate the inspection data that clears hardware for use. When a measurement doesn't close, hardware stops moving, and your work is a key part of the response. This is a technician seat on a small team that owns its measurement process end to end. You will work shoulder to shoulder with the design and manufacturing engineers who defined the features you are inspecting, and your feedback helps refine the drawings and the fixtures. The hardware is in production today and the next-generation configuration is in active design, so you will inspect fielded hardware and support new measurement routines in the same week. This hardware cannot be inspected remotely Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Operate and maintain coordinate measuring machines (contact and non-contact) to inspect precision components, working from engineering drawings, inspection plans, and work orders Run, edit, and adjust CMM measurement routines, and support the development of new routines under the guidance of senior technicians and engineers Establish part alignments and datum reference frames per GD&T callouts, and verify that the measurement strategy correctly represents design intent Set up and use inspection fixtures and part-holding methods that repeatably locate hardware without inducing distortion Execute dimensional inspection campaigns and iterate measure-analyze-remeasure passes until results are repeatable and defensible Perform first-article inspection (FAI/AS9102), in-process inspection, and final acceptance inspection, and generate the associated inspection reports Interpret and apply GD&T, including position, profile, runout, flatness, and datum reference frames, and correctly report feature conformance Analyze measurement results, identify out-of-tolerance conditions, and distinguish true part nonconformance from measurement or setup error, escalating unclear cases as needed Calibrate, qualify, and verify probes, styli, and reference artifacts, and confirm machine health before critical measurements Document all work in the quality and work-order systems, including as-measured results, alignments used, artifacts and probes qualified, and anomalies observed, to the standard that lets an engineer reconstruct what happened months later Red-line and help improve inspection, programming, and measurement procedures based on what actually works on the floor Support root-cause investigations by capturing measurement data, preserving nonconforming hardware, and contributing direct observation to the analysis Support gauge R&R and measurement-system-analysis studies to prove out measurement capability Follow safety, lockout/tagout, and PPE requirements without exception, and stop work when conditions are unsafe Contribute to a positive team environment and share knowledge with peers Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED 2+ years of hands-on experience in dimensional inspection, CMM operation, precision metrology, quality inspection, or equivalent military technical experience Demonstrated ability to work from engineering drawings, inspection plans, and written procedures Experience operating coordinate measuring machines (e.g., PC-DMIS, Calypso, MODUS, or comparable) Proficiency with precision measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, gauge blocks, and indicators, and the judgment to know when a measurement is trustworthy Ability to read and interpret GD&T callouts Experience establishing part alignments and datum reference frames on a CMM Demonstrated attention to documentation, recording measurement results accurately and completely in a quality or work-order system Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum Preferred Qualifications Associate degree, technical/trade school
