Description of Work Broughton Hospital is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Clinical Informatics Specialist (Nurse Consultant II). This role serves as a liaison for clinical care processes in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the hospital’s electronic medical record (EMR) and other clinical information systems. The incumbent will report to the Clinical Informaticist Director and play a vital role in the development, standardization, and enhancement of computerized clinical tools used throughout the organization. The Clinical Informatics Specialist will support hospital-wide efforts to optimize clinical workflow, identify and integrate emerging technologies, and streamline information exchange across departments to mitigate redundancy. This position requires comprehensive knowledge of clinical practice standards, healthcare informatics, hardware and software systems, regulatory requirements, and the legal considerations associated with clinical information systems. Key Responsibilities: • Participate in the maintenance, evaluation, and ongoing improvement of the Clinical Information System (CIS), maintaining an updated understanding of all associated processes • Provide proactive CIS user support, including staff training, education, and evaluation of appropriate system use and clinical documentation practices • Assist in the development of test plans; conduct system testing; validate functionality; and ensure database integrity • Serve as a member or consultant to relevant committees, workgroups, and task forces involved in the design, implementation, and revision of both automated and manual clinical information systems • Maintain current knowledge of healthcare trends, nursing practice developments, informatics standards, hardware and software systems, and applicable national and state regulations • Analyze clinical workflow across hospital departments to identify opportunities for improvement, support integration of new technology, and reduce data entry duplication • Coordinate information flow to enhance system efficiency and support organizational performance initiatives Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Recruitment Range: $66,696.00 - $110,049.00 Salary Range: $66,096.00 - $110,049.00 *A Sign-On Bonus of $10,000.00 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on Budget Approval. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:' Possesses comprehensive knowledge of clinical informatics, psychiatric and medical nursing practice, clinical workflows, and the regulatory and operational frameworks governing clinical information systems. Demonstrates proficiency with Electronic Health Records and clinical technologies, supported by strong communication skills, effective collaboration, detailed workflow analysis, and robust project management capabilities. Able to lead system planning, optimization initiatives, and the translation of clinical needs into practical and sustainable informatics solutions; skilled in developing targeted educational materials, fostering interdisciplinary teamwork, and supporting data driven performance improvement efforts. Exhibits strong leadership, informatics expertise, and operational competencies, including staff oversight, management of core informatics functions, and direction of initiatives that enhance clinical workflow efficiency and system performance. Previous experience serving as a Clinical Informatics Specialist or in a closely related professional role. Per G.S. 126-5 (c1) (37), this position is Exempt from all provisions of NC General Statute Chapter 126 (State Human Resources Act) with the exception of Articles 6 and 7. This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events. This position work schedule is Monday - Friday - 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM *ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS To qualify for the Sign-On Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible.  Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a pro-rated rate. An employee is not eligible for a Sign-On Bonus if: The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date). The employee has previously received a Sign-On Bonus from any State agency. DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
