Description of Work The Autopsy Facility Manager supports the OCME Autopsy Division through direct supervision of the Histologist and Autopsy Technicians and coordination of daily operational needs. The position assists forensic pathologists by performing technical tasks related to postmortem examinations and contributes to decedent management, telephone death investigations, and death scene–related functions. This role also supports planning and operational activities for mass fatality incidents in collaboration with other OCME sections. In addition, the employee performs administrative duties alongside the Operations Manager and Safety Officer to ensure consistent facility operations. The position serves as the liaison to Duke University for the Pathology Assistant Training Program and helps facilitate related activities. Key Duties Include: - Supervise Histologist and Autopsy Technicians and manage daily assignments for a team of nine direct reports. - Provide technical assistance to forensic pathologists during postmortem examinations. - Perform duties related to decedent management, including coordination of telephone death investigations and death scene inquiries. - Participate in planning and handling mass fatality incident operations with other OCME sections. - Complete administrative tasks in partnership with the Operations Manager, OCME Safety Officer, and other facility‑related units. - Coordinate operational needs and communication for the Pathology Assistant Training Program with Duke University. - Support autopsy facility operations through collaboration with internal OCME divisions and designated designees as required. - Contribute to documentation and information handling associated with autopsy operations and related investigative processes. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Grade Range: $61,177.00 - $91,767.00 Recruitment Range: $61,177.00 - $66,200.00 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.  The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:   Expert-level experience supervising technical staff in an autopsy operations setting, including directing daily workflows for a nine‑member team. Advanced proficiency performing postmortem examination support tasks, including hands-on involvement in autopsy procedures and decedent management processes. Demonstrated experience conducting telephone death investigations and coordinating death‑scene information in a fast-paced medicolegal environment. Proven success coordinating administrative and operational tasks across safety, operations, and facility management functions within an autopsy division. Direct experience supporting structured mass fatality incident planning with intermediate proficiency in multi‑unit response coordination. The Posting Will Close At 11:59 P.M.
