Description of Work Reporting to the Accounting Technician II at a medium custody male correctional facility, this position serves as the Canteen Supervisor and is responsible for managing a state prison’s canteen (commissary) or central storeroom. This role operates like running a model retail business within secured perimeter, providing a vital incentive system for the prison population. Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Managing Canteen inventory, monitoring stock levels, and reconciling inventory and invoice discrepancies to ensure accurate financial and inventory records. Inventory counts are entered and verified through the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS). 2. Maintaining accurate inventory records for offender postage stamps, including local and international stamps. 3. Preparing monthly Canteen Inventory Reports, including vendor invoices, damaged or spoiled merchandise, and month-end store variance reports. 4. Maintaining organized and accurate financial, inventory, and operational documentation to support internal and external audits and ensure compliance with departmental requirements. 5. Coordinating closely with Trust Fund Accounting to ensure Canteen vendor payments and checks are processed and mailed within required monthly deadlines. 6. Overseeing the efficient movement of supplies into the prison store room and regulating the accurate distribution of goods (hygiene, apparel and food products). 7. Hiring, scheduling, training, and overseeing incarcerated individuals assigned to canteen work details. Supervisors manage these operations by eliminating blind spots within the canteen area, monitoring behavior while enforcing security protocols to prevent larceny and contraband trade. Ensuring total compliance under NCDAC facility guidelines. 8. Processing and issuing Canteen refunds to offenders in accordance with applicable procedures. 9. Monitoring, preparing, and submitting Fixed Asset Reports to Raleigh in accordance with established reporting requirements. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the Minimum Education and Experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences are not required but applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Documented knowledge of general accounting practices. Documented working knowledge using Microsoft Excel. Documented knowledge of E-Procurement, NCFS or other accounting system. About Nash Correctional Institution Nash Correctional Institution is a medium custody facility located in Nashville, Nash County NC. It houses approximately 654 male offenders. The facility provides offender labor to two Correction Enterprises operations located on site: the Optical Plant and the Print Plant. The Optical Plant manufactures eyeglasses for customers such as Medicaid and the Division of Services for the Blind. The Print Plant is a full-service print shop dedicated to printing services for state government agencies, public school systems, state community colleges and universities, and non-profit organizations.
